Oscar deserves a loyalty card to the local hospital. In his 3 years and 9 months of life he has had an incredible sixteen admissions to the Children’s Ward. On (Not-so)-Good Friday we took him to Emergency with breathing difficulties and fever which had been going on for a couple of days. We had been treating it at home as an asthma attack – the primary cause of his previous fifteen admissions – but this time his symptoms seemed a little different. Assessed as a Category 2 triage patient they immediately took him in to be seen and followed up with a chest X-ray. We were told that the cause of his illness this time was not only his asthma but also pneumonia.
Never one to toe the line and after continued deterioration overnight it was decided that he had an atypical strain of pneumonia which required a more individual treatment. Unfortunately he will likely be there for a few more days meaning that this year Easter will be spent in hospital.
Given this blog is about capturing life, in all its rawness and honesty, I thought it was only fit to capture some moments at the hospital today. The bad moments are what build character and help us to appreciate the good so I feel they’re also worth remembering.
