We went on a massive walk last week along the southern Sydney coastline. I wasn’t expecting much from my weekend, as it had been raining all week and more had been predicted, but it fined up just in time for our adventures. We took the coast track out to the magnificent cliff face at the edge – Oscar on foot accompanied by his carefully selected walking stick and Lola on Tim’s back. The sun was fairly high in the sky, reflecting off the bright white sand and puddles, making exposing the camera a little tricky. Someone recently told me that I should only shoot in flattering, even light at the end of the day or under a cloudy sky. I understand what they’re saying and why they would say it but life doesn’t just happen in perfect light and can you imagine the moments that would be missed waiting for that ‘perfect’ light?! So instead I embrace it – after all it’s all a learning experience – and I can safely say I am no longer afraid to shoot into the sunlight.
